OR52 Annual Conference

7-9 SEPTEMBER 2010

Royal Holloway University of London

Detailed Timetables

27 parallel streams offered a wide variety of interest on many topics at OR52, including: Community OR; Criminal Justice; Data Mining and Forecasting; Finance; Health; Logistics and Supply Chains; Multicriteria Decision Aid; Optimisation; OR in Developing Countries; OR in Education; Risk, Reliability and Maintenance and many more.

The opening plenary speaker, Professor David Fisk, holds the BP/Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Imperial College, London. The other plenary speakers were Professor Jeff Griffiths, winner of the Society’s 2009 Beale Medal, and Professor Richard Eglese, President of the Society. The President’s Medal was awarded at the conference with the short-listed candidates presenting their reports of OR in practice.

(above right - the conference was held at Royal Holloway, which was founded by two Victorian visionaries, Elizabeth Jesser Reid and Thomas Holloway. The famous Founder's Building, one of the most spectacular university buildings in the world, was officially opened by Queen Victoria in 1886.)

We also had a single-day stream aimed specifically at people whose primary role was to use OR to influence the decisions of the organisation they work for. 'Making an impact - maximising the benefits from OR'  spotlighted examples from major commercial organisations, explored best practice and shared challenges for this community, provided a window into relevant academic developments and enabled networking opportunities.

There was also a full social programme that is customary at OR Society conferences, including a bar quiz, conference banquet (pre banquet drinks being held in the Picture Gallery - see right) and a choice of excursions including a historical tour of the Founder’s Building, a walking tour of Windsor, a visit to the Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park, and a boat trip from Windsor to Runnymede.
