Location
The University of Edinburgh is the very attractive location for our 2012 conference which will be based in the John McIntyre Conference Centre – a state of the art conference facility overlooking Arthur’s seat. We will also once again be using the St Leonard’s Building made famous by its use as the location of St. Trinian’s School in the 1950s films. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and the home of its Parliament. It’s also home to the former Royal Yacht Britannia and has five Michelin starred restaurants, more than any other city in the UK outside of London.
The city’s superb architecture ranges from ancient churches to monumental Victorian masterpieces dominated by the iconic Castle perched on a craggy hill in the city centre. Looking down the Royal Mile from the castle, you’ll see Holyroodhouse, a Palace built in 1128 and the Queen’s official residence in Scotland. Opposite the Palace is the Scottish Parliament which opened for business in 1999. The previous Scottish Parliament closed in 1707 following the Act of Union with England and the formation of a British Parliament in Westminster.
