Applications for 2022 Master’s Scholarship are now open

Each year, The OR Society offers scholarships worth £10,000 towards tuition fees for students who show academic ability in OR-related studies, but need help with funding to fulfil their potential.

The eligibility criteria for application are: applicants’ proposed degrees must contain at least 40 percent of operational research content; degrees will begin in the autumn of 2022; and applicants must be UK nationals.

The deadline for applications is 28 February 2022. Successful candidates will be asked to become members of The OR Society and contribute to Society activities, such as writing articles and giving talks.

Meet Maryam: our most recent scholarship winner

Maryam Mojdehi began her working life as a nurse in Iran, a role in which she regularly analysed patient data to inform decisions about the most appropriate care. After eight years, she moved to the UK and switched careers, to pursue her passion for mathematics, statistics and data analysis.

During her BSc in Mathematics at Manchester Metropolitan University, Maryam studied advanced analytical methods, statistical techniques and operational research. After graduating with first class honours, she subsequently spent a year developing her professional experience at the Information Commissioners’ Office and the General Medical Council.

Maryam says: “I am excited to be joining the MSc Business Analytics, Operational Research and Risk Analysis course at the University of Manchester. I worked part-time during my undergraduate degree to support my daughter and my own studies and found it challenging to balance full-time study with part-time work and being a full-time mum.

“The support provided by The OR Society’s Scholarship will enable me to stop working and focus full time on my OR studies at the UoM – when I’m not worrying about my daughter and her own exciting university life!”
