Join the KD Tocher Medal judges’ panel

Applications are now open for practitioners and academics interested in becoming a volunteer judge for the Journal of Simulation (JOS) KD Tocher Medal.

Every two years The OR Society awards the KD Tocher Medal for the best paper appearing in the JOS. We are now seeking a volunteer to join the judging panel for this award, next due in 2021, for an initial term of five years.

The role

As a judge, you and your peers are required to assess all papers published in the qualifying two-year period, after which a shortlist of potential winners is produced.

This shortlist is combined with the editors’ recommendations for final assessment to select a winning paper using the following criteria:

  • impact on the real world, including OR/IS community (actual impact)
  • relevance to the real world (potential impact)
  • degree of innovation
  • quality of technical content
  • quality of writing

Every two years you will be expected to contribute at least 25 hours of voluntary time to the judging process, where you will be required to review papers and discuss with your peers.

Eligibility

Both practitioners and academics with expertise relevant to the scope of the journal are invited to apply for this voluntary role.

About the JOS

The JOS covers techniques, tools, methods and technologies of the application and the use of discrete-event simulation, agent-based modelling and system dynamics.

The journal encourages theoretical papers that span the breadth of the simulation process, including both modelling and analysis methodologies. It also welcomes practical papers from a range of simulation applications in domains such as manufacturing, service and defence.
