Across our business we are carrying out some of the most innovative and complex nuclear activities in the world.

Our site at Sellafield is spread across 6 square miles and is home to more than 1,000 facilities, all performing a wide range of tasks. These include decommissioning the UK’s nuclear legacy as well fuel recycling, manufacturing and the management of low, high and intermediate level nuclear waste.

The facilities at Sellafield contain some of the most technically challenging and hazardous decommission programmes in the world.  The material being handled is highly radioactive and chemically reactive, the equipment and the site are complex, the facilities are aging and the programmes extend over many years.

To accelerate the hazard reduction programmes Sellafield Ltd together with its suppliers has developed world leading strategic/detail modelling and operational research tools. 

Sellafield Operational Research Group is currently 23 Strong and is recognised as the modelling capability group and intelligent customer, for all Sellafield Ltd sites, ensuring a consistent approach to the varying requirements of its customers. 

To maintain our internal standards Sellafield regularly engage internationally recognised independent academics to review and audit the modelling processes and procedures.
