Society Groups

The mission of The OR Society is to be 'a vibrant, visible and valued society which exceeds the expectations of members and effectively promotes the use of OR, such that it is highly respected both in the UK and abroad’; and our vision is of 'a world improved by rigorous analysis and better, evidence-based, decision-making: "OR providing world class analysis for world class decisions”'.

Membership not only connects you to the operational research and analytics community in the UK, but also makes available to you the full range of our world-class journals (all available online) and preferential rates across a busy calendar of specialist conferences and training courses. The society can also help members develop their careers, through not one but three professional accreditation schemes from the internationally-recognised Science Council, INFORMS and The OR Society.

The society also creates opportunities for you to learn new techniques, share knowledge and expand your network through our Special Interest Groups and Regional Societies. You may choose to help the society build the profile of OR through its strategic projects: Pro Bono OR, which connects volunteer analysts to third sector organisations to help them improve; and OR in Schools, which enables young people to engage with the world around them through the problem-solving powers of OR.

This, and more, is available to you when you become a member.

What type of membership is right for me?

Each membership type - full member, student member, corporate affiliate - has a complete list of benefits and associated membership fees. Retired members have access to the same benefits as a full member, but at a lower cost. So what are you waiting for? Join us today.

Membership Rates

Full membership of The OR Society is £81 annually (£73.50 by direct debit) or £6.10 monthly. The monthly option is available online with direct debit. Alternatively you can request an invoice. Retirees can become full members at a reduced rate.

Student membership is FREE. You will need to send us verification of your status as a student within ten working days.

If you are living abroad and are a member of your local OR society, you may also join the UK OR Society for a reduced fee.

Additional charges to the standard membership rate are for extra journals or for the various grades of accreditation and professional certification, but these are optional.
