Conferences - Introduction

The OR Society organises several conferences every year. Listed below is general information on the conferences organised.

Annual Conference

This main event is usually held in early September and attracts over 350 delegates from the UK, Europe, North America and elsewhere. The most recent annual conference was the OR60 Anniversary Conference, in September 2018 which was hugely successful attracting around 500 delegates. The next will be the OR61 Annual Conference on 3-5 September 2019 at the University of Kent. The three-day conference programme contains a mixture of plenary sessions given by keynote speakers and parallel streams, covering all aspects of O.R. which are of interest to both the Academic and Practitioner delegates. The one-day Making an Impact stream is specifically tailored to be of interest to practitioners. In addition there is a comprehensive social programme.

New to OR Biennial Conference

Every other year the Society holds a ‘New to OR’ conference intended for academics and practitioners with up to ten years' experience in OR. This conference was previously named ‘Young to OR’ and the most recent was Young to OR 20 (which took place on  the 4-6 April 2017).  The next New to OR conference will take place on 10-11 April 2019 at Aston Conference Centre, Aston University, Birmingham.  This event gives early career members of the profession an opportunity to present their work in a non-threatening environment to an audience of their peers. There are plenary talks by keynote speakers, interspersed with parallel streams which are of interest to both the Academic and Practitioner delegates and a comprehensive evening social programme.

Other conferences

Each year, the Society holds a variety of conferences on specialist topics. Past conferences include the Simulation Workshop (SW18) which took place at Ettington Chase Hotel, Stratford 19-21 March 2018 and the Annual Analytics Summit in June of 2018.
