Inside O.R September 2014

Abstract

This month’s front cover might suggest a meteorological theme to the issue, but no. Just as we’re getting used to the idea of cloud computing, Cisco want to change it! Another of the articles brings news of a new variety of routing algorithm which can find the prettiest route. I wonder if that takes account of the weather – certainly clouds or fog might have an impact there! Sanja Petrovic has taken the unusual step of bringing in help for her leader article. Her colleague from Nottingham helps consider the differences and similarities between O.R. and O.M. Read the article to find out their conclusions (and it’s not just five places in the alphabet). For those of you who’ve been tackling the series of problems in our Y2OR articles over the past few months, there’s good news – the solutions are here. Find out how well you did. There are at least two booking opportunities available to you: OR56 takes place next week, so if you’re really, really quick you can still book, and places for the Blackett Memorial Lecture in November can now be reserved. Did you know that when you read the electronic version of Inside OR all of the articles are bookmarked? Click the relevant icon to open the bookmarks and jump to the various articles at will!
