The Office for National Statistics is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and the recognised national statistical institute of the UK. We are responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional and local levels. We play a leading role in national and international good practice in the production of official statistics and also conduct the census in England and Wales every 10 years. Our main responsibilities are collecting, analysing and disseminating statistics about the UK's economy, society and population. We run major programmes designed to deliver new statistics, improve our IT infrastructure, improve access to our data and develop our staff.

The Government Operational Research Service (GORS) are the analytical minds behind many of the Government's policies - policies which, when brought into being, touch the lives of everyone in the UK. Yours included. Through the use of various scientific and mathematical techniques, we add empirical weight to a new or revised policy. Our work, in effect, helps bring it to life. We employ around 800 analysts, ranging from sandwich students to members of the Senior Civil Service. Join us, and you'll be part of a small and select team who are able to influence the decisions of policy makers at more than 25 government departments and agencies.
