Dstl is an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) providing world-class expertise and delivering cutting-edge science and technology for the benefit of the nation and allies, including through its operational research capability.

Dstl operational research analysts, wargamers and data scientists support the MOD and wider Government to ensure that intelligent decision-making shapes UK defence and security. We use our own expertise and our extensive partnerships with industry, academia and international partners, to develop and provide a broad range of impartial evidence-based analysis. Our analysis is used to inform time-critical decisions relating to current operations, investment decisions relating to procurement for the next generation of military capability, through to research decisions regarding the early stage development of generation-after-next technology.

The Government Operational Research Service (GORS) supports policy-making, strategy and operations in many different departments and agencies and employs over 1,300 analysts, from placement students and recent graduates to Senior Civil Servants.

GORS analysts bring intellectual rigour to the decision-making process. We are the analytical minds behind many of the Government's policies - policies which, when brought into being, touch the lives of everyone in the UK. Through various scientific and mathematical techniques, we ensure evidence based policy making.

If you have a background in mathematics, statistics, physics, data science, engineering or another numerate discipline and want to use those skills for the benefit of everyone in the UK, then GORS is the place for you.

The Civil Service has high standards for diversity and inclusion which include ensuring that recruitment is on merit based on fair and open competition, to attract the best talent from all backgrounds.

Where could you work? Roles are available in most UK cities.

What opportunities are there? GORS offers summer and year-long sandwich placements, which will be available to apply for on Civil Service Jobs.

GORS runs two recruitment rounds each year for permanent graduate jobs, which will also be available to apply for on Civil Service Jobs.
