Using System Dynamics to better understand police performance

Abstract

This practical case study describes how West Yorkshire Police have started to employ system dynamics thinking to gain a better understanding of the interrelationships between the various performance variables, the inputs, outputs and outcomes in order to improve corporate planning and decision making. The high level model explores the wider system impacting upon selected performance variables that are not all under the control of the police service and where solutions are not simple
