AS18: Realising the vision of the Northern Powerhouse: a disruptive and data-driven approach to transforming the North

Abstract

Transport for the North (TfN) is the organisation formed to transform the transport system across the North of England, providing the infrastructure needed to drive economic growth. TfN is a unique partnership, with elected and business leaders from all areas of Northern England uniting to work with central government and national transport bodies. In April 2018 it became the first sub national transport body with statutory powers to produce the long term plan for investment in the North to drive economic growth and help rebalance the UK economy. TfN’s unique mission has required the development of new thinking, tools and approaches about the impact of transport on the economy of the North of England, and the wider impacts on skills, investment and innovation. The emerging TfN evidence base offers new insight into the role of transport in improving human wellbeing, generating economic growth and regenerating the built-up world around us. This session will share the innovative approach that TfN has taken to tackling these challenges. This includes how agile innovation has been used develop a portfolio of data and modelling services at speed and through a strong collaboration with public and private sector partners.
