The Crime Reduction Model

Abstract

Combination of Cognitive Mapping with conventional tools to support Government analysis Technical Consulting Cognitive Mapping (CM) was developed to help an individual decision-maker, or a relatively small group, interactively identify and organise the issues they face. Large organisations – such as government ministries – require this type of support, but it needs to be combined with more conventional analytical approaches to manipulate large amounts of information into a form that allows multiple decisions to be supported. This paper presents a case study, addressing Home Office crime reduction targets and investment, which demonstrates how CM can be combined with other approaches to support complex decision-making. These approaches include network analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and simulation.
