The Place of Research in Social Choice

Abstract

The booklet whose content is reproduced here was published in 1970 by the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations. It collects together the three principal contributions to a symposium held on 25th November 1969 at the House of the Royal College of Physicians in Regent’s Park, London, dedicated to the memory of Neil Jessop, IOR’s first Director, who had died in April of that year. The Chairman’s introduction by Lord Fulton, President of the Council of the Tavistock Institute, was followed by two papers: Structures for Social Decision by John Stringer, who succeeded him as Director, and On the Ambiguity of the Researcher and the Researched by Professor Russell Ackoff of the University of Pennsylvania.
