Abstract

This month’s cover article is a report on Chris Dent’s OR54 plenary. It was certainly interesting to hear the varied way O.R contributes to this sector. Vice President John Hopes tries to deny that he was there at the beginning – of financial modeling that is. He argues that O.R. and financial modeling are closely linked, and I tend to agree. Quite a bit of my time in O.R. consultancy was spent building such models, although not always of the large and complex variety.
