Inside O.R.July 2014

Abstract

We’re a bit early for Halloween, but there’s a certain chill factor running through this issue. The cover story re-brands the latest flavour of analytics. The prospect of your purchasing-DNA being mapped out is a little spooky, and definitely demonic as the title suggests. Elsewhere, we ponder ‘When Fridges Attack’! Again, the link between big data, analytics and ongoing automation of our daily lives has a certain ring of Big Brother. The issue also features reports from a couple of key events. The Society recently hosted an event for members of the policy profession to demonstrate how problem structuring can help with their complex projects, and April saw the latest of our analytics seminars.
