Annual General Meeting 2023

Our AGM is is an important annual event where our members can make their voices heard, through both the voting process and contributions during the meeting.

We encourage all members to vote and attend each year. Voting can be either by post or online or by handing in their ballots at the meeting. Postal and online ballots should arrive 24 hours before the meeting to be counted.

This year we were delighted to welcome Professor Dr Nira Chamberlain OBE CMath FIMA CSC as our guest speaker.

Strategic Modelling:
The Challenges of Operational Research (OR) in an Increasingly Data-Driven World

Professor Nira Chamberlain OBE PhD HonDSc FORS FIMA CMaths CSci, is the currently the President of The Mathematical Association and is the Immediate Past President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. He also sits on the Executive Committee of the Academy for Mathematical Sciences.

Nira has over 30 years of experience at writing mathematical models/simulation algorithms that solve complex industrial problems. Nira has developed mathematical solutions within industries such as the defence, aerospace, automotive and energy sectors. This has included periods in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Israel. During his career he has chaired and organised many conferences including the annual Black Heroes of Mathematics. As well as this, on several, Nira has been an invited to speak at a number of prestigious conference events such as the International Mathematical Union: International Congress of Mathematicians 2022 and in 2018 was named World's Most Interesting Mathematician.

Nira was awarded an OBE in 2022 Queen’s Honours list, for services to mathematical sciences.
