Celebrating diversity at The OR Society

Last year, The OR Society noted some special celebration days and these were marked by various articles in Inside OR and on social media posts. We would like to do the same again this year and would be grateful to have input from our members and the wider OR community.

Below is a list of celebration days that we would like to note over the next twelve months. So far this year, there has already been activity for International Day of Women and Girls in STEM via the OR in Education twitter account. March marks International Women’s Day (IWD) and we are asking people to nominate on Twitter females to be celebrated for IWD. This could be a woman who has inspired you, who impacts the workplace, who challenges bias, or just someone you wish to celebrate. Please tweet your nominations at our @TheORSociety account on Twitter, telling us who you are nominating and why, being sure to tag the person being nominated (if possible) and use the hashtags #IWD2022 and #BreakTheBias.

The Women in OR and Analytics Network (WORAN) is also hosting a webinar later in the month on the subject of ‘Breaking the bias’. Further information and details on how to register will be made available at www.theorsociety.com/WORAN

The OR Society would welcome input from members and the wider OR community to celebrate diversity. Input could be anything from writing an article for Inside OR, the website or the monthly newsletter (or finding someone else to), to activity on social media or hosting a ‘lunch and learn’-style webinar on a particular topic or theme. Articles could cover a relevant theme or topic, share good examples from the community or note particular activities being carried out in the ORS. Any involvement, activity or ideas would be very welcome.
