Major funding for UK Mathematics

In a statement issued on 27 January 2020 by PM Boris Johnson, major funding of up to £300 million will be made available to more than double the current funding for the mathematical sciences, delivered by EPSRC, part of UKRI.

A Flavour of SW20: the Simulation Workshop

As I am writing this article, registrations to the conference are looking very healthy and we look forward to seeing everyone at SW20 – but there are still places available! We have 31 contributed papers (including short papers), 15 posters, seven tutorials, a panel discussion and two high profile keynote speakers in the field of simulation.

Food insecurity made better with Pro Bono OR

This issue highlights the application of Pro Bono OR expertise to problems associated with UK food poverty and some work done with Lancaster District Food Poverty Alliance Pro Bono OR was piloted by The OR Society in 2011 and fully instituted in 2013. The scheme has placed skills-based volunteers on many short term projects with third sector organisations across the UK.
