The OR Society has opened applications for its 2022 Master’s Scholarship, worth £10,000. The award is intended to support students who would otherwise be denied opportunities to study operational research because of financial constraints. (Picture: Maryam Mojdehi, our most recent winner.)

The OR Society has recently joined the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (enei), the not-for-profit, employer-led membership organisation which advises on all aspects of equality and inclusion in the workplace.

Fifty-three leading engineers from the UK and around the world have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering in recognition of their outstanding and continuing contributions to the profession. Included in the 53 Fellows is OR Society President Professor Edmund Burke.

In this instance, professionalisation isn’t a smart suit or a slick presentation. It covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours that might be expected of a data scientist. The OR Society is a key player in a group of bodies interested in what such professionalisation might look like.

Experts from Cardiff University will lead a partnership studying the needs of rural communities to unlock innovations made possible with 5G technology.
