The OR Society joins enei – the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion

The OR Society has recently joined the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (enei), the not-for-profit, employer-led membership organisation which advises on all aspects of equality and inclusion in the workplace.

Membership provides the ORS with access to expert guidance on significant legislation, such as the Equality Act 2010. enei also makes available toolkits and ‘good practice case studies’ on a host of EDI issues to help members “evolve in line with a changing world”.

The organisation’s remit touches everything from issues around disability, race and gender to unconscious bias, workplace leadership and bullying and harassment. Its role is to “help [members] navigate [their] way through the maze” as well as advising them on how to “make the tactical changes that improve the bottom-line now”.

Regarding The OR Society’s new member ship status, Board Diversity Champion Nicola Morrill said, “It is fantastic to see The OR Society take this step – a visible demonstration of its commitment to equality, diversity & inclusion. This will help the Society keep at the forefront of developments in EDI.“

While the Society represents thousands of analysts and operational researchers, its staff team is relatively small, making it eligible for the enei’s Foundation Membership tier – for organisations with fewer than 250 workers.

Membership status of enei is one of the more visible benefits of the recent work done by the Society to promote a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. The Society is mid-way through a series of workshops and ‘time to talk’ discussion sessions for staff and volunteers; as well as a review of its policies and procedures to ensure standards are met and ‘evidenced’.

The OR Society’s Deputy Executive Director, Felicity McLeister, said, “The OR Society is committed to promoting an inclusive workplace. Over the past year we have celebrated National Inclusion Week, regularly share information on wellbeing and have introduced an EDI policy. We recognise that a having a diverse team where everyone’s difference is recognised and valued leads to a healthier workplace.“
