Our Annual Conference returns on 12-14 September 2023 at the University of Bath

This year our Annual Conference returns on 12-14 September 2023 at the University of Bath. The theme for the OR65 annual conference will be recognising and celebrating 75 years since the beginning of the OR Society. Building on previous years’ conference themes - of demonstrating the impact of OR on decision-making and improving operations across all areas of society and industry – OR65 will ensure to showcase how OR can be used to create a better world. Our 2023 event will provide a platform to both speakers and delegates alike who will challenge and stimulate the community. By sharing their work challenges and successes, they will help the OR community of attendees to stay up-to-date with the latest OR developments and innovations.

Each annual conference is built around the interests and expertise of our membership, and OR65 is no exception. This year, our busy schedule of streams and talks will cover a wide range of diverse specialisms within operational research. Confirmed streams so far for OR65, include Behavioural OR, Data Envelopment Analysis, Education in OR Analytics, Hybrid Modelling and Simulation, Mobility ORand Net Zero, OR for Strategic Decision Making and Policy Making, OR in the Third Sector, Project and Risk Management and Transportation. There will also be Making an Impact (MAI) sessions, which will provide a space for the exchange of ideas, skills and strategies for maximising professional impact. Full details on this stream will be published in due course.

Additionally, Mark your calendar for the Operational Research Society Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network workshop! The event will take place on 11th September at the University of Bath, just before OR65. This workshop is a great opportunity for ECRs in OR to connect with their peers, gain valuable insights, and learn about key opportunities to establish successful research careers. You will have a chance to hear from leading academics on reviewing academic papers and receive essential advice for publishing your papers. You will gain insight into available grants, how to make a successful application and hear from leading grant holders and EPSRC. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in mock panels to assess real grant applications, present a poster and participate in structured networking activities.

Call for papers and posters is now open, submit yours before 30th May 2023! Plus, members can benefit from an early bird discount at the rate of £429 and non-members, £538. Registration is now open: Annual Conference - The OR Society

Where is it all taking place?

Established as a top 10 UK university with a reputation for research and teaching excellence, OR65 will be held at the University of Bath on the Claverton Down campus. Situated in the South West of England, on the east side of Bath, the site is easily accessible and only 1 hour and 25 minutes away from London by train. A wellbeing destination since Roman times Beautiful Bath’s waters are still a big draw, both at the ancient Roman Baths and the thoroughly modern Thermae Bath Spa, which houses the only natural thermal hot springs in Britain you can bathe in.

Why should I attend?

OR65 is likely to be the largest gathering of operational researchers in the UK this year. It will be a place for meaningful networking, whether re-establishing old working friendships or creating new connections. It will place you at the centre of a vibrant community of problem-solvers who are improving the way society operates in their corners of government, industry, academia and the third sector. Our Annual Conference event programme will include excursions and social events throughout the conference; all details of which will be published at a later date.
